Take care of your feet and toes…

You put your feet through a lot. The truth is your feet support you throughout your day-to-day activities.
This means they can be taking anywhere between 8,000 and 10,000 steps within a 24-hour period. When
you do the math it means your feet are travelling over 100,000 km throughout your life. You wouldn’t
expect your car to do that without properly tuning it up, but we expect that of our feet. Taking the time to
properly care for your feet ensures they continue to carry you successfully throughout your lifetime.
Pedicures are a wonderful way to care for your feet. Sometimes pedicures are perceived as purely a
feminine activity, but the truth is that pedicures have wonderful health benefits for both men and women.
You can give yourself a pedicure or you can head to a spa to have one done for you, but whichever
method you choose you can be rest assured you are going to be able to reap wonderful benefits from it.
By taking good care of your feet you can expect your feet
will be better protected from common foot problems like ingrown toenails, calluses, and general fungal infections.
Additionally, a pedicure will just make your feet feel better which will help you walk better. Plus, pedicures can
incorporate additional treatments like aromatic oils, warm footbaths and massage to help increase circulation and the
pampering qualities of the treatment.

Generally, a pedicure takes anywhere from a half hour to an hour to complete. The duration of your treatment is dictated by how many extras are involved in it. For example, a very basic pedicure will typically take about

thirty minutes whereas a more rigorous treatment can take as long as an hour and half. Typically you can expect to
start your pedicure with a foot soak to soften your cuticles and any calluses that you may have. Additionally the foot
soak is dedicated to simply cleaning your foot. From there your pedicure therapist will shape your cuticles, shape
your toenails, and remove any excess skin. Additionally, you may want to incorporate an exfoliation procedure to
remove any dead skin. Some pedicures may incorporate the use of antiseptic oil or creams. Most pedicures finish
with a relaxing massage of your feet and lower legs. From there your pedicurist can apply polish to your newly
cleaned and shaped nails. The fun part for you is choosing the colour.
It is important to trust your instincts when you walk into a pedicure spa. Have a good look and make sure
that everything looks clean and sterile. Additionally, their credentials should be prominently displayed.
When in doubt do not be afraid to ask some questions. If you question them about their hygiene policies
ensure you are satisfied by their response and procedures. If you do not feel comfortable for any reason
it is important to trust your instincts and take your business elsewhere. There are health guidelines spas
must adhere to given suffering from an infection after a having a pedicure treatment is not what you want.
When you go to have a pedicure there are some suggestions that you may wish to consider. Many
salons require appointments so take care to ensure you make one to avoid having to sit and wait for a
long time before receiving your service. Online bookings are common these days and make it convenient
to book from anywhere and at any time. Additionally, if you have any infections or wounds of your feet
you want to let those heal prior to having a pedicure. Also wear open shoes to an appointment. The last
thing that you want is to get your toes perfectly polished only to have that polish ruined by your shoes.
Avoid wearing short, revealing skirts when you have a pedicure. For modesties sake choose pants that
are easy to pull up, capris or a pair of shorts.

When it comes to pedicure options there are many different ways to go. One of the most versatile options
is a clear polish pedicure. However, another popular option is a pedicure where you choose the polish in
the colour of your choice. A French polish is usually a two toned polish that often uses a soft pink colour
with white tips. Be aware that a French pedicure typically costs a bit more money than a traditional
pedicure.
